About the Event

Planet Italy: An Adventure in Teaching and Learning

A planetarium educator, Andy Kreyche was selected to take part in a program to teach astronomy lessons (in English) to high school students in different parts of Italy. Each place came to life due to generous hosts who seemed to exemplify their surroundings. And being in Italy for the first time gave Andy new perspectives on kindness, patience, artistry and permanence. Come along with him on a unique journey that will take you from Assisi to a Franciscan convent in the countryside, from historic Ravenna to an observatory in the foothills of the Alps, among other places.

Bio:

An astronomy educator for over 30 years, Andy Kreyche started his career in planetariums at De Anza College in Silicon Valley in the late 1990's. He ran the planetarium at Hartnell College for 10+ years and also operated a business with a portable planetarium. A Santa Cruz resident since 1975, Andy also does volunteer outreach with the Santa Cruz Chapter of DarkSky International, informing people about the dangers of light pollution and advocating for better lighting. Andy's trip to Italy this year was his first journey off of the North American continent.
